SUMMARY:Open Artist Studio: Top Hat Glassworks ♿
DESCRIPTION:Top Hat Glassworks is an artist-run cooperative glass studio in Seattle dedicated to expanding access to glass through education\, collaboration\, and community-centered programming. We support artists at all stages of their practice by creating opportunities for technical growth\, creative experimentation\, mentorship\, and shared resources. Rooted in the belief that artists can support artists\, Top Hat Glassworks aims to build a more accessible\, sustainable\, and connected glass community.\nDuring the Refract Open Studio\, visitors will be able to explore multiple studio spaces throughout our home\, as well as our hot shop and fabrication studio. The artists will be working the studios during the walkthrough; however\, our primary focus is on opening our space and sharing it with the Refract community. \nAbout the hosts: \nJohn Sharvin’s practice is grounded in a technical understanding of mechanical systems and material applications. Inspired by space and mechanical infrastructures\, his work often incorporates humor to build narrative and evoke empathy within his sculptures. \nBri Chesler creates immersive installations that fuse glass with unconventional materials\, that explores desire\, vulnerability\, and intimacy. Her work challenges traditional hierarchies within glass\, using sensory engagement and material tension to draw viewers into psychologically charged environments. \nMiNHi England creates work that explores perception\, grief\, memory\, and transformation through reflection\, light\, and optical distortion. Her practice moves between hot-formed glass\, mirrored surfaces\, neon\, photography\, and installation to create moments where beauty and unease exist together.
