SUMMARY:Glass And Decor Studio Tour and Sale
DESCRIPTION:Several Pacific NW Glass Guild members (PNWGlassGuild.org) and their friends open their studios to you on this free self-drive tour in North Seattle. Each studio also hosts a few guest artists. You’ll see a wide range of glass techniques and a few other media. Most locations have demonstrations of some sort\, and all the artists enjoy discussing their work. See further details at GlassAndDecor.com. \nStudio 1)\nMilo Snyder combines ancient casting methods with computational design to make sculptural lighting that is precise\, geometric\, and still shaped by hand. He is fascinated by glass’s ability to hold light\, and light’s ability to transform a space and the people in it. \nStudio 2)\nKaren Seymour gives functional form to the color and light she finds in nature by creating glass tables\, lamps\, mirrors\, vessels and fountains. Recent pieces reflect the challenge of representing the classical 4 elements: earth\, fire\, water and air and of textures produced at different fusing temperatures. \nLael Bennett is known for creating handcrafted work that celebrates both the beauty and the surprises of glass making. She now uses kiln-forming techniques and glass reactions to create unique patterns and color effects in dropped glass vessels and other functional art. \nWendy Campbell’s focus currently centers on two areas: powder based glass “paintings” and glass casting. She also adds recycled materials — everything from discarded glass fragments to damaged violins to create award winning works of art. \nAndi Ficker has been that helpful assistant at Glass Expressions in Burien for many years. She also teaches classes at her home studio south of Seattle. Her fused glass makes you smile: colorful mobiles\, creatures and flowers to brighten your home and garden. \nLinda Schnell’s fascination with the intersection between art and science along with a passion for beach travel inspires her to create layered mixed medium coastal art. Enjoy Linda’s fused glass table and wall decor highlighting our local sea life. \nStudio 3)\nJaniene Fitzpatrick loves anything rainbow\, but purple is often missing so she got a kiln and began making her own fused dichroic glass rainbow pendants  — with purple. She has now branched into making glass hearts\, realistic fish\, stunning layered landscapes and much more. \nStudio 4)\nChris Steffens’ day job is helping Fremont Antique Glass produce some of the premier mouth-blown stained glass in the world. Spare time finds him in his backyard hot shop turning out colorful whimsy. Every visit brings a delightful surprise. \nJohnathon Tardif’s Craquelle Series begins with deliberately breaking the blown glass by submerging it in water\, shattering the surface into an intricate network of cracks while maintaining structural integrity. This reveals vivid interior colors beneath an intricately fractured shell. \nStudio 5)\nDavid Smith was introduced to the art of glass blowing in 1978 while studying for a degree in materials science: He was hooked. Some travel let him get experience at a glass studio in Paris and a pottery workshop in Ireland. In 1992 he opened his own studio/hot-shop\, “Blowing Sands”\, in the Ballard neighborhood.
