SUMMARY:Modern Design & Glass at Design Within Reach ♿
DESCRIPTION:Explore both iconic & modern glass through the world of design; names such as Glas Italia\, Helle Mardahl\, Louis Poulsen\, MESO\, Sophie Lou Jacobsen\, Tom Dixon\, and more. \nArtist Bio: \nFlos\nEdward Barber and Jay Osgerby have been challenging the boundaries of design since 1996\, when they founded their eponymous London studio. The internationally acclaimed designers work with major furniture manufacturers – including Knoll – to produce pieces that emphasize experimentation and innovation. In 2012 they designed the Olympic Torch and today their work is held in museums across the world. \nGUBI\nAmerican designer Bill Curry transformed traditional lighting by placing an emphasis on the bulb as an integral part – a space-age concept that was dubbed a “total look” aesthetic. His signature Stemlite Floor Lamp was selected by the US Department of Commerce to represent America in exhibitions abroad during the 1960s and remains an iconic symbol of 1960s California modernism.

DESCRIPTION:Explore both iconic & modern glass through the world of design; names such as Glas Italia\, Helle Mardahl\, Louis Poulsen\, MESO\, Sophie Lou Jacobsen\, Tom Dixon\, and more. \nArtist Bio: \nHelle Mardahl\nHelle Mardahl Studio operates at the intersection of art and functionality to create a dreamy universe of richly coloured glass designs of eccentric deviance. Influenced by nostalgic memories from childhood and iconic films such as Alice in Wonderland and Charlie & The Chocolate Factory\, the collection of glossy glass creates a conceptual candy universe of magic\, dreams\, and indulgence. \nLasvit\nAfter meeting and collaborating at the Academy of Art\, Architecture and Design in Prague\, Jan Plechác and Henry Wielgus founded their eponymous studio in 2012 with a goal of “transcending the barriers between art\, architecture and design.” \nLouis Poulsen\nElevated lighting Louis Poulsen partnered with the famous Danish architect Poul Henningsen to elevate lighting to the realm of great design. The company still manufactures Henningsen’s iconic works like the Artichoke and Snowball pendants to the architect’s same exacting specifications.

DESCRIPTION:Explore both iconic & modern glass through the world of design; names such as Glas Italia\, Helle Mardahl\, Louis Poulsen\, MESO\, Sophie Lou Jacobsen\, Tom Dixon\, and more. \nArtist Bio: \nMuuto\n“Good products are responsible products that are available and accessible for people\,” says Andreas Engesvik. The Norwegian designer is known for furniture\, objects\, and accessories that evoke Scandinavian minimalism but bring forward a poetic character that is unique to Norway\, helping the country earn a permanent place on the global stage for leading contemporary design. \nNude Design Studio\nNUDE is defined by their mastery and craftsmanship of handmade glass. Pulling from a pool of leading international talents — including 350 master blowers — the Turkish studio strives to create streamlined pieces that help tone down what can sometimes be a world of too much visual noise. NUDE’s ethos lies in sparkling simplicity\, both in the form and function of crystalline glass.

DESCRIPTION:Explore both iconic & modern glass through the world of design; names such as Glas Italia\, Helle Mardahl\, Louis Poulsen\, MESO\, Sophie Lou Jacobsen\, Tom Dixon\, and more. \nArtist Bio: \nSophie Lou Jacobsen\nFrench-American designer Sophie Lou Jacobsen creates objects and furniture for everyday use\, but with details designed to delight the user. Working mainly with colored borosilicate glass as her medium\, Jacobsen explores the relationship between humans and the inanimate\, imbuing a sense of poetry into the objects with which we surround ourselves\, from cocktail glasses to pendant lights. \nTom Dixon\nBorn in Tunisia and raised in England\, Tom Dixon’s reputation frequently precedes him. His mystique as a bad boy – Dixon dropped out of art school following a motorcycle accident and spent time in his 20s playing bass with a rock band and organizing warehouse parties – is nearly as recognized as his unmistakable gift for design and emergence as one of England’s most influential designers.
