SUMMARY:Milo Snyder Studio
DESCRIPTION:Come see the full arc of the process in a working backyard studio — 3D modeling\, printing demos\, lost PLA casting\, sculptures emerging from plaster molds\, cold working. Then step inside the home where finished pieces are installed and experience the emotional power of sculptural lighting firsthand. \nI grew up around glass — my parents first met in a hot shop. My path to making was unlikely: chemical engineering\, then data modeling. Those years taught me to see geometric possibilities in the material that I might not have found otherwise. I’m fascinated by glass’s ability to inhabit light\, and light’s ability to transform a space and the people in it. I combine ancient casting methods with computational design to make sculptural lighting that is precise\, geometric\, and finished by hand. The work has been recognized in the Corning Museum of Glass’s New Glass Review\, and continues to evolve.

SUMMARY:Open Artist Studio: Seymour Stained Glass ♿
DESCRIPTION:Karen Seymour finds that working with glass allows her to give functional form to the color and light she finds in nature. You will see glass tables\, lamps\, mirrors\, vessels and fountains. Recent pieces reflect the challenge of representing the classical 4 elements: earth\, fire water and air. Karen has been teaching her glass on glass applique process for over 20 years and has written a couple of books on it. Getting a kiln in 2013 allows her to also explore kiln-forming techniques. How different temperatures can be used to create different textures is a recurring focus in her work. She currently volunteers with the Pacific Northwest Glass Guild (PNWGlassGuild.org).

SUMMARY:Open Artist Studio: KCJ Szwedzinski + Dave Walters ♿
DESCRIPTION:KCJ Szwedzinski and David Walters are interdisciplinary artists whose practices bridge glass\, imagery\, and narrative. SUMMARY:Sun Machine Glass
DESCRIPTION:Visitors can expect to see my finished work\, works in progress\, and experimental projects. My studio is a space for exploration\, design\, and creativity.  \nMy artistic background began in Palo Alto\, CA\, when I began blowing glass at the age of 14. Over the years\, I have learned how to express my creative voice through glass\, with a special love for Venetian glassblowing techniques. My creative approach is rooted in traditional glassblowing techniques\, interpreted through my own style. My current work explores dreams\, experience\, and perception.

SUMMARY:Top Hat Glassworks ♿
DESCRIPTION:John Sharvin\, Bri Chesler\, and Minhi England are glass and mixed-media artists hosting an open studio event at Top Hat Glassworks. This shared live/work space was built from a vision of sustainability and community. \nJohn Sharvin’s practice is grounded in a technical understanding of mechanical systems and material applications. Inspired by space and mechanical infrastructures\, his work often incorporates humor to build narrative and evoke empathy within his sculptures. \nBri Chesler creates immersive installations that fuse glass with unconventional materials to explore desire\, vulnerability\, and intimacy. Her work challenges traditional hierarchies within glass\, using sensory engagement and material tension to draw viewers into psychologically charged environments. \nMinhi England’s work blends multiple glass processes\, drawing from themes of perception\, grief\, and transformation. Her approach emphasizes fluidity and balance\, resulting in forms that feel both delicate\, refined\, and dynamic. Both Minhi and John were featured on Season 3 of Blown Away on Netflix. \nDuring the Refract Open Studio\, visitors will be able to explore multiple studio spaces throughout our home\, as well as our hot shop and fabrication studio. There may be small demonstrations during the walkthrough\, but our primary focus is on opening our space and sharing it with the Refract community.

SUMMARY:Two Tone Studios ♿
DESCRIPTION:Visitors can expect a private working glassblowing studio and showroom\, located in West Seattle. Hand-blown glass tableware\, decorative objects\, and sculptural work will be on display. \nTwo Tone Studios creates contemporary-designed hand-blown glass objects with a nod to the past. Each unique design is handcrafted by husband and wife team Boyd Sugiki and Lisa Zerkowitz\, who met as graduate students at the Rhode Island School of Design. The work they create includes decorative objects and tabletop items such as drinkware\, bowls\, vases\, cake stands\, and covered dishes. \nSayuri Fukuda was born in Ibaraki\, Japan\, and studied Glass Art and Craft at Joshibi University of Art & Design in Tokyo. For her\, the joy of creation is about combining beauty with function\, as well as incorporating expressions from nature and understanding the characteristics of the material — all a dance\, a movement\, a flow of form. She moved to Seattle thirteen years ago\, where she makes her work\, assists other local artists with their work\, and does research & development for glassybaby.
