SUMMARY:The Kinetic Lens ♿
DESCRIPTION:The Kinetic Lens is a collaborative activation featuring Eunsun Choi and her engineering partners. This session invites participants into the “black box” of the Mouseness ecosystem to explore the hidden intelligence behind the glass. This activation is a deep dive into the synthesis of glass craft and sensory electronics. \nArtist Bio: Eunsun Choi is a South Korean-born multidisciplinary artist and DXARTS Ph.D. candidate at the University of Washington who integrates autonomous technology with conceptual sculpture. Her internationally exhibited practice\, including solo shows at 4Culture and the Seattle Art Fair\, interrogates social power dynamics through the lens of material alchemy and robotic systems. A recipient of the NYSCA/NYFA Fellowship and a veteran of prestigious global residencies\, Choi’s work pushes the boundaries of how immersive environments translate marginalized historical narratives.

SUMMARY:Hot Shop Demo | Rob Stern ♿
DESCRIPTION:Join us in the hotshop for a special guest artist demonstration by guest artist Rob Stern. Celebrating the 35th year of Seattle Glassblowing Studio. \nArtist Bio: Based in Miami\, FL\, Rob Stern started working with glass in 1990. He studied at San Francisco State University (BFA) and then University of Miami (MFA) alongside sessions at Pilchuck Glass School and Penland School. \nArtist Statement\nMy aesthetic resides at the crossroads where humans and nature intersect. Between organic and angular\, a space\, which connects the temporary man-made to the pre-existing and eternal cosmos. Here we begin to measure our perspective and contemplate the perception of our place in the world as it is one that is always changing with the evolution of space\, light\, and time. I venture to capture moments with materials that speak to a fleeting sensibility of the permanence or importance of this balancing act. My works act as a communicative device which seek to connect my thoughts and my actions to the collective human consciousness. A path seeking insight and enlightenment which carries me forwards and always seems to bring me back to the glass.

SUMMARY:Jeff Lindsay Diamond Shear Re-release Party at Hot Glass Color & Supply
DESCRIPTION:Glassblowers\, join us at Hot Glass Color & Supply for a super cool and very fun event with Jeff Lindsay. Jeff will be debuting the re-release of the very first diamond shears he ever designed and made. Jeff made and debuted his first tools in 1978 at the GAS conference in Asilomar\, CA under the moniker Random Specialties. Random Specialties eventually morphed into Cutting Edge Tools. Those very first diamond shears were made with D2 tools steel\, as is still true\ntoday. The steel proved too tough to cut with a hacksaw and he had to put the whole thing on hold for a few years. Once water jet cutting became available\, Jeff picked it all back up again and Random Specialties was born. The RS diamonds are recognizable by their longer blades and unique design\, unlike others on the market. When Jeff and Dante collab-ed on the Dante Diamond Shears\, the popularity of the RS shears waned and Jeff discontinued them. Over the years\, requests for the original shears would come in and Jeff had to say no. Until now! After digging up the original drawings the shears are back. Get them while you can. Come by to hang with Jeff\, ask questions\, check out the new old RS shears\, watch a cool demo\, and generally\, have a good time. You might even win the drawing for a pair of the new old RS Shears! An opportunity not to be missed. Jeff Lindsay is an artist\, toolmaker\, glassblower and most of all\, an all-around great guy. Known primarily for his shears\, he is an active member and long-time supporter of the glass community

SUMMARY:Granite Calimpong at Traver Gallery ♿
DESCRIPTION:Granite Calimpong affirms his versatility as a sculptor\, skilled in various media such as glass\, ceramics\, wood\, metal\, light\, and photography. His emphasis on material exploration gives vivid and innovative expression to the unique qualities of each of his chosen materials.  \nArtist Bio: Granite Calimpong received a BFA in Interdisciplinary Computing in the Arts and Music from UCSD in 2007 and completed his MFA in Sculpture at the University of Washington in 2019. While a graduate student at UW he explored perception and various visual phenomena associated with illusions through the use of wood\, clay\, glass\, photography\, and metal. During the decade before attending the UW\, Calimpong worked predominantly in glass\, maintaining his own studio practice\, assisting various renowned glass artists in the Seattle area\, and working as a fabricator helping several non-glass artists realize their ideas in the medium.

SUMMARY:35 Years Music & Glass | Hot Glass Party featuring Friday\, Singletary & Skyriver with music by guest DJ Pongkhi Bujorbarua ♿
DESCRIPTION:For 35 years\, Seattle Glassblowing Studio has welcomed visitors and artists alike into our hotshop. Come celebrate our 35th Anniversary with us with hot glass and cool music!. Evening will include a collaborative demonstration by Dan Friday\, Preston Singletary and Raven Skyriver\, with music by guest DJ Pongkhi Bujorbarua. \nArtist Bio:  \nDan Friday is a member of the Lummi Nation and a Skagit Valley based artist. He has spent the last 30 years creating works primarily in glass. Dan has taught at the University of Washington\, Evergreen State Collage\, Pilchuck Glass School\, Pendland School of Craft\, Chrysler Museum\, and the Haystack Craft Center. In 2017 Dan started the Native Youth outreach Program at the Pilchuck Glass School. \nRaven Skyriver started blowing glass in high school at the age of sixteen. Raven’s mentor\, Lark Dalton\, taught him how to build glass blowing equipment and trained him in the traditional Venetian technique. In 2003 Raven was invited to join the William Morris team. He worked on the team until Morris’ retirement in 2007. The experience of working with such a talented group of artists galvanized his decision to follow Glass Sculpture as a profession. \nRaven lives near the Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood\, Washington\, and produces his work in the greater Seattle area. Raven shows his work nationally and has been featured in group shows internationally. His focus in the area of sculpture\, and the depiction of marine life is inspired by his island upbringing\, and informed by the creatures that inhabit this fragile ecosystem. \nPreston Singletary’s art has become synonymous with the relationship between Tlingit culture and fine art. His glass sculptures deal with themes of Tlingit mythology and traditional designs\, while also using music to shape his contemporary perspective of Native culture. \nRecognized internationally\, Singletary’s works are included in the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston\, MA)\, the Seattle Art Museum (Seattle\, WA)\, the Ethnographic Museum (Stockholm\, Sweden)\, The National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh\, UK) The British Museum (London\, UK)\, The National Museum of The American Indian\, Smithsonian Institution (Washington DC) as well as two solo exhibitions that toured multiple venues originating with the Museum of Glass (Tacoma\, WA).
