Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee: Fifty Years

October 17 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Free

BIMA presents three exhibitions within one — retrospectives of solo work by Seattle artists Dennis Evans and Nancy Mee, plus their collaborative work. This major, combined exhibition features artworks spanning fifty years.

Evans’ background includes studies in chemistry, a BFA in Ceramics, and an MFA in Design. Numerous fascinations and inspirations include mythology, religion, philosophy, science, machines, and the meaning of language. Over the decades he has produced performance art, mixed media installations, set designs, poetry, paintings, and assemblage works incorporating diverse media such as ceramics, encaustic, the written word, and found objects.

Nancy Mee’s career has evolved through various artistic journeys and educational experiences. These include a BFA in Printmaking, a year of study at Atelier 17, work in the studio of S.W. Hayter, and as an Artist-in-Residence at Pilchuck Glass School. Mee’s work has combined printmaking; techniques using photographic images; sculpture with steel, bronze, and stone; and fusing and slumping glass. Her different series of art conveys varied themes, from garden and botanical forms to mythology and ideas of justice.

Evans and Mee married in 1980 and have produced a substantial portfolio of collaborative art together. Included are works that reflect the literary world, science, cosmology, and various experiences and complexities of humanity.
